Do the winter blues have you down? A trip to Williamsburg may be the perfect solution to get you out of that slump. Not only do we have plenty of indoor tours, programs, and activities to keep you warm but you may just be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Revolutionary City covered in a blanket of snow!
Witness Child’s Play of Epic Proportions
Marvel at the intricate and elaborate 18th and 19th-century dollhouses on display inside the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg. This larger-than-life Long Island Dollhouse is fully furnished and joins many others including a house made in 1820 for twin girls. 2015 also marks the 300th anniversary of Bruton Parish Church, a landmark in the Williamsburg townscape. Check out the exhibit that includes 18th-century church silver, prayer books, and even the church’s original weathervane.
Escape (Inside!) to Another Place and Time
Sneak inside our heated historic buildings and visit the residents of the Revolutionary City. Partake in some political discussions and gossip while enjoying a sampling of coffee, tea or chocolate at R. Charlton’s Coffeehouse. Tour the George Wythe House and get a glimpse into the life of one of the most influential men of the Revolutionary era.
Voice Your Opinion!
The verdict is in, step inside the Courthouse and become a key player in an 18-century local court session during Order in the Court. Meet one of America’s unsung nation builders during Meet a Nation Builder at the Raleigh Tavern Apollo room.
Learn the Tricks of the Trades
Visit our “hottest” trade and warm up as you witness our blacksmiths take red-hot iron from the fire and transform it into a variety of items. You never know what they will be making at the Anderson’s Blacksmith Shop and Public Armoury. What is a good activity to do on a winter day? Read a book! Visit the Bindery and discover the art and skill of book binding. It may have you begin to look at your books in a different light. Check out our Trading Secrets series to brush up on your knowledge before your visit.
