When I think of a classic and sophisticated Williamsburg wedding, my mind immediately goes to simplistic elegance. I’m talking greenery, white florals, and those simple southern touches. Jenny and Sean’s Williamsburg Inn wedding included all of that, and so much more!
The couple, William & Mary alumni, met in college and decided to bring their family and friends back to campus and the beautiful, historic city to exchange their vows. After all, this is where their love story began!
When the big day rolled around, there was actually a tropical storm churning off the East Coast. But this amazing duo didn’t let the threat of Hermine dampen their plans or their spirits.
The weekend began that Friday at the phenomenal Blue Talon Bistro, a restaurant that is very special to Jenny and Sean. When the lovebirds were at William & Mary, the two had date night there every Friday. On the eve before they said “I do”, they wanted their loved ones to experience the same meaningful tradition along with them. The night was complete with an extensive, southern fare menu; a Fender groom’s cake provided by Kadi Bakes; and gorgeous, full centerpieces provided by Flower Cupboard.
The wedding day was a continuation of superior southern elegance. It began with Jenny and her girls getting ready at the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg. Following the pampering, they spent the rest of the day relaxing in their suite at the Williamsburg Inn.
The groomsmen also enjoyed some low-key preparation (and toasting) of their own!
As day slowly turned to dusk, the couple and bridal party boarded a trolley to head to the famous Wren Chapel for what would be a truly enchanting ceremony. The sounds of a string duo echoed through the chapel and the wonderful Pastor Cory Newell delivered a message that was the perfect blend of humor and love.
Following the ceremony, the guests traveled back to the Williamsburg Inn where they headed to the East Lounge to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Though the weather still wasn’t exactly what they’d expected, the beauty of the room was just what Jenny and Sean had hoped for.
When guests left cocktail hour, they headed to their final destination—the elegant Regency Room. As soon as you entered the reception, you couldn’t help but be in awe of the magnolia leaves cascading down the railing and the 20-foot greenery that extended across the head table.
Candle light; lanterns; and floral arrangements in white, green, and blush accompanied the rest of the regal décor. Jenny’s love of monograms was also evident and made for the perfect personal touches throughout the room.
Overall, the ambiance was the perfect way to enjoy a five-course meal presented by the talented chefs of Colonial Williamsburg. Dinner was followed by a delicious Wedgewood-inspired cake.
As the night went on, guests of all ages hit the dance floor for a mix of oldies and classics, though that wasn’t the only form of entertainment.
The cigar and bourbon bar was a big hit, almost as much as the fire pit and s’mores. Almost…
As the festivities came to an end, the weather finally dissipated, and everyone was able to blow bubbles as the couple drove into the night in their Rolls Royce. The evening was absolutely magical and exactly what every simplistic, southern wedding should be!

A couple of years ago I was visiting Williamsburg for a long weekend and a couple had just gotten married. I saw them getting their pictures taken on the Palace Green near the Capitol. Later on, I saw the happy couple walking down the street and I told them congratulations. They were very friendly and said thanks in return.
Weddings in Williamsburg would be so beautiful any time of the year. Maybe one day I will be just as lucky and have my dream wedding there, too. Of course, if I was lucky to have it happen, I would certainly invite the Founding Fathers and their wives as well so that everyone could experience a very special day in a wonderful city of America’s history!
