If you fell for our April Fools’ Day gag…you’re in good company! It’s all in jest, of course. As George Washington wrote in 1786, “it is assuredly better to go laughing than crying thro’ the rough journey of life.”
Not to worry, friends. Contrary to this morning’s blog post, young Abraham Lincoln will NOT be joining us as a Nation Builder. The odds of that happening are about the same as one Instagram follower’s quip that we supplement “young Abe” with a Viking colony on Duke of Gloucester Street. (Those hilarious comments from you, our faithful followers, have easily been the best part of today for our social media team).
We are, however, delighted to introduce to you to our Faux Lincoln: Joaquin Basile Patron, the social media intern! Here he is touring the Historic Area this afternoon:
Alas, the joke came to an end:
Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone!
We hope you enjoyed watching the comments as much as we did. Until next year!

I found the Lincoln post alarming, particularly when I thought about how our new CW President has been shaking things up (viz: CW trick-or-treating). And somehow I missed your explanation above. It wasn’t until a historial friend pointed out that it was an Aprili-first posting that I began to calm down.
CW and Revolutionary War history are very precious to me, and my sense of humor is not always present.. I was even been wondering whether to change my level of support — you see how seriously I took this!

Abraham Lincoln had a great sense of humor (which he developed right here in southern Indiana) and knew the value of self-depreciation. I think he would have liked this post. But… to explore the *real* young Abe Lincoln, I invite you to visit Abraham Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. No joke! Thanks CW for a smile.

I figured it was an April Fool….The give away was Mr. Lincoln was not dress is historic clothing…CW would never let someone out dress in the ones he had on

Good one, guys!!! I have to admit, you left me scratching my head after yesterday’s post.

How funny was that! I’m not big on the gaol bate cover of the latest issue of your magazine! I always look forward to each issue and read every page, but since I’m not into cooking so much or gardening at all, it was a bit disappointing for me.

Given how Colonial Williamsburg has been changing its image, it would not be surprising to see Abraham Lincoln. Or Martha Stewart, for that matter. Needless to say, I’m not a fan.

Duh!

rRats!! I was very much looking forward to seeing Lincoln lead the Army of Potomac into town to proactively nip succession in the bud during the 18th century.

I meant secession! I really can spell.

This was great…..thanks for the laughs! Well done,!
