It’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween in the Revolutionary City. Employees and volunteers are busy transforming the Historic Area to welcome more than 3,600 guests for trick-or-treating fun on both Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31,
Linus from the famous “Peanuts” comic strip may have spent a night waiting for one Great Pumpkin, but Colonial Williamsburg purchased 100 pumpkins from Pumpkinville in Toano to light up the night. Landscape volunteers and employees gutted the pumpkins and transported them to a location to be carved. We lit the finished products so you could get the full effect!
Through the generosity of Mars Inc., thousands of pieces of candy were provided to satiate the sweet tooth of young trick-or-treaters. Products employees unboxed packages of plain M&Ms, peanut M&Ms, Milky Way, Twix, Snickers, Starburst, and Skittles and transferred them into burlap bags to distribute to participating sites.
You should begin your Halloween experience at the Visitor Center where you can exchange your registration vouchers for our official trick-or-treat bags. If you misplaced your confirmation email, please bring a photo ID so our ticket agents can look up your information. You will also receive a map of 16 sites located between Botetourt Street and the Capitol that will be passing out candy. These sites are Tarpley’s, Wetherburn’s Tavern, Charlton House, two stops at King’s Arms Tavern, Shields Tavern, Palmer House, Edinburgh Castle, John Crump House, Nicolson Store, the Apothecary, Alexander Craig House, Golden Ball, the Millinery Shop, and the Russell House.
We are also excited to announce that we will be participating in the “Teal Pumpkin Project” created by Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). If your child has allergies, please remember to mention it during registration. You will be given a special bag with a teal logo to indicate to our staff that your child should receive gluten-free, soy-free and nut-free goodies. In addition to passing out Skittles and Starburst, we will also have stickers, spider rings, plastic fingers, and other toys.
Teal pumpkins can be found at eight sites of the 16 sites that are distributing treats. They are Tarpley’s, Charlton House (not to be confused with the coffehouse), King’s Arms, Shields Tavern, Edinburgh Castle, Nicolson Store, Alexander Craig House and the Millinery Shop.
We have worked hard to make our first ever Haunting on DoG Street an inclusive event for every member of the family and we’d love your feedback. Please remember to upload your pictures to Instagram using #HauntingonDoGStreet and #BlackbeardsRevenge!
