At Christiana Campbell’s Tavern future president James Madison and Baptist preacher Gowan Pamphlet reflect on the promise of the 4th of July. Has it been fulfilled?
The young Madison is in a festive mood about America’s birthday, but the Rev. Pamphlet questions the reason for celebration.
Independence Day is a great time for Americans to look back and celebrate our history. But as citizens, we are the caretakers of the republic.
And the work never ends. Amidst the day’s pursuits of happiness-the flags, fireworks and barbecues-we should also take a little time to reflect on the work still to be done, and what kind of nation we hope to leave to future generations.

Thank you for posting this video and the eloquent words of the honorable James Madison and the Rev. Pamphlet. These are words for thought on this day of celebration.
