We hope you all had a fabulous Fourth of July and thank you to everyone who joined Colonial Williamsburg to celebrate Independence! Despite a pretty nasty storm that blew through just a couple hours before the show, quite a crowd gathered on Palace Green for the big event.
Some of you (like me!) who couldn’t make it in person, were able to watch all the action from home in front of your computers. The livestream started around 9:00 p.m. and provided a cyber front row seat to the show!
First, the Fifes and Drums played, followed by an inspirational lesson about the history and sacrifice behind our liberty—a message that echoed through the Historic Area.
Then, of course–the moment we’d all been waiting for. Fireworks lit up the sky over the Governor’s Palace. My personal favorites were the patriotic explosions of red, white, and blue. For those of you who weren’t able to make it or missed the online show, we’ve included video of the grand finale as well as pictures shared by photographers Shannon Schojan, Donna Headlee, and Colonial Williamsburg photographer Dave Doody. I also included some fun screen grabs from the livestream.
As an added bonus, we’ve also included highlights from the tug of war that took place earlier in the day at Market Square—between the patriots and the loyalists. Who won? Watch our video to find out and let us know if you recognize any of those faces!

I’m glad you enjoyed them, Gail! I have three puppies, two of which are terrified of fireworks. We stayed in Saturday night but I got to enjoy the show thanks to the livestream!
