What makes music patriotic? Have you ever thought about it? Why do we stand up tall and proud when we hear our National Anthem played? Why do we choke up when singing “America The Beautiful?” What magical force pulls us like a helpless magnet behind the Fife and Drum corps when they march past?
Sure, it’s easy to say pride and a spirit of loyalty to our beloved homeland is what pricks our emotions, but what is it about that particular music that distinguishes itself from other melodies?
We asked three prominent Williamsburg citizens that very question. Hear from the leader of our Fifes and Drums Lance Pedigo, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison!
So the next time you hear a patriotic melody, remember the sacrifices and freedom stories of this great land. Never forget how much you love this country, and this Saturday stop to reflect on what makes you proud to be an American.
