If you’re planning a visit this summer, you may want to add a new program to your itinerary. It’s a one-hour session inside the Colonial Nursery and Garden where you’ll learn about everything from which plants act as bug repellants to which can help those bug bites once you get them!
The program is called Herbs: Folklore, History & Use and it takes place Wednesdays at the front of the Colonial Garden and Nursery. It’s an informal format where volunteer, Audrey Chiricotti, will separate myths from reality when it comes to how herbs were used as medicine in the 18th century and how they can also be used today.
She’ll also take questions and afterward, will demonstrate how to make a wreath using some of those aromatic herbs available for purchase in the garden. You can hang the wreath in your kitchen or you can use it as a centerpiece by adding a hurricane (and even a pillar candle) as shown below!
Audrey gave us a sneak peek at one of her DIY sessions so we could share it with you!
Again, these sessions take place Wednesdays before lunch and are included in your Colonial Williamsburg admission. Just show your pass as you enter the garden gates!
Do you have any family secrets about herbs that can be used for healing—maybe some that have been passed down from generation to generation? If so, please share in the comments below!

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF 2016 CHRISTMAS EVENTS?
Jennifer Dennis says
I appreciated the practical tips on how to make a wreath more natural. Mine always look like mirror sides of each other and not very artistic.
