What did you do on your summer vacation? Oh, you know, I just fired an 18th-century cannon to send General Washington and his troops into battle. Sound like fun? Then, get ready. We’re about to reveal our first blogging contest just for kids!
If you haven’t heard already, every day this summer, the Visitor Center is choosing one lucky child to fire a cannon during our On to Yorktown and Victory program. And while the daily selection process may be random, our Making History team is hand-selecting a very special boy or girl to light the cannon and kick off a July Fourth weekend of patriotic programming. Click on the video below for a first-hand look at all the fun.
Before we get to the entry process, please take a look to make sure your child meets our qualifications!
- Must have an active youth Annual or Multiday Pass
- Must be 8-13 years of age
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds
- Must be able to stand for short periods of time (10-15 min)
- Must have signed waiver from a legal guardian
- Must be able to attend July 3 event from 5-5:30 p.m. (and arrive 15 minutes early for instruction)
Now, it’s time to rally the troops! Parents, all you need is a smart phone with the ability to upload video to our Facebook page. Then, in 30 seconds or less, we want to hear from your son or daughter about why he or she loves Colonial Williamsburg! You have from now until midnight on June 30 to submit your entry.
Have fun. Get creative. Be honest. Our Making History team will vote on the most engaging entry and notify the winner on July 1!
