On Tuesday, May 5th, carpenters, joiners, and brick makers (all working incognito in 21st century dress), along with assorted Colonial Williamsburg staff and visitors joined in the frame-raising for Williamsburg’s 1757 Market House. No matter how many times we do it, a frame-raising never gets old! The crowd began gathering before 9, and showed remarkable fortitude as the mercury climbed above the 85 degree mark. By mid afternoon, many had retreated to the shade, but there were still a few unwavering spectators when the day was called at around 6 p.m. The action continues today, May 6th. If you missed the first “episode”, here are a few images from yesterday’s event. As always, many thanks for your interest, in-person or via the webcam. It was a great day!

I love that juxtaposition, too! I should have checked to see if the straw hat was reinforced! Keep watching, and do come back to see the finished product in the fall!

I love the juxtaposition of the modern hard hats with the old straw hat. Loved watching the raising of the Market Square building. We continue to watch the progress each day and anticipate coming again this fall to see it completed. Thanks. Jackie Vilt

I’ve watch what i could on the web cam. I like your new 24 hour view but could put more frequent views in this. But it’s a great addition. When will the next step begin? Will we be able to see the other building at all as they work on it? I so wish i lived close enough to come by frequently. I dream of moving closer in 2 or 3 years.

I’ve been glued to the webcam to watch the action! Loved watching the Market Place emerge from the past.
