Colonial Williamsburg opened for business at noon after a snowstorm dropped 4-6 inches across the capital city. Before we could make it out with our own cameras, some of you went exploring and shared your pictures with us. Thank you! With your help, we were able to create a slideshow of beautiful winter snapshots.
If you live locally and can safely make it out of your neighborhood, you still have time to come and see us. Just don’t forget your camera! The Visitor Center will be open until 5 p.m. and Greenhow Lumber House will remain open until 4:45 p.m. You can also warm up in Shields Tavern which is serving dinner from 5 – 7 p.m.
SNOWSTORM OCTAVIA - February 17, 2015
We think we got some postcard-perfect shots, especially behind the Governor’s Palace where the gardens were absolutely magical! Let us know—which are your favorites?
Paula Kocher says
Stunning! especially like the glass cloches in the garden holding the promise of spring! We still have coldframe lettuce in PA but tonight may finish it….its wrapped in a blanket and plastic with a lightbulb inside…not a Colonial method for sure!

I was in Williamsburg last Thursday and Friday, the 12th & 13, and was outside when the storm arrived in the afternoon on Thursday. Your photos were even more beautiful than that spectacular afternoon. I particularly loved the one of the two horses running in the storm with the snow flying off of their backs. thank you for these pictures.
Jessica A. Ross says
You’re welcome, Thom. I’m sorry you missed the big snow Monday night but I hope you had a wonderful visit and you plan to come and see us again soon!

Thank you, LaJuana. I just added a few more one of our colleagues took of the cattle, horses, and sheep in the snow. I hope you enjoy them!

Enjoyed the pictures. Colonial Williamsburg is always beautiful, but there just is something special when it’s blanketed with snow. Thank you so much for sharing!
Jessica A. Ross says
I agree. We were happy to get at least one “real” snow this winter. It sounds like there may be a little more in the forecast tomorrow night.
Jessica A. Ross says
Thanks, Fred! We appreciate your feedback and support. The snow isn’t melting any time soon so I have a feeling we’ll be seeing some of your amazing work before the week is over.
